Trichoderma viride, commonly known as green mold, is a beneficial fungus utilized for disease control in agriculture. Here are some key features regarding its role in disease control:
- Biological Control: Trichoderma viride acts as a biocontrol agent, meaning it combats plant diseases using natural mechanisms rather than synthetic chemicals.
- Antagonistic Activity: It competes with pathogenic microorganisms for space and nutrients, inhibiting their growth and colonization on plant surfaces and in the soil.
- Enzyme Production: Trichoderma viride produces various enzymes like chitinases and glucanases that degrade the cell walls of pathogens, thereby weakening or killing them.
- Induced Systemic Resistance (ISR): It triggers the plant's defense mechanisms, stimulating systemic resistance against pathogens. This enhances the plant's ability to fend off diseases.
- Root Colonization: Trichoderma viride forms symbiotic relationships with plant roots, colonizing the root zone. This enhances nutrient uptake and provides a physical barrier against pathogen invasion.
- Environmental Safety: It is environmentally friendly and doesn't harm beneficial organisms, animals, or humans. Trichoderma viride doesn't leave harmful residues in the environment.
- Green Light controls stem-rot, root-rot, fungal infections, black spots of leaves, colour changes and pigmentations of leaves etc.
- Green Light produces no harm to human or other organisms. The metabolitess of Trichoderma are helpful in plant growth.
- Cereals, Fruit plants, pulses, vegetables, oil seeds, ornamental plants, turmeric, cotton etc are the plants in which light is highly effective.
- Seed treatment: 250 ml of Green Light is mixed with 200ml of rice kanji to make slurry. The seeds required for an acre are mixed in the slurry so as to have a uniform coating of the inoculant over the seeds and then shade dried for 30 minutes. The shade dried seeds should be sown within 24 hours.
- Main Field Application: 1 Litre Green Light is mixed wit 20Kgs of dried and powdered farm yard manure and then broadcasted in one acre of main field just before transplanting. Keep Green Light bottles away from direct heat and sunlight. Store it in cool and dry place.
- Ingredient List: 1X10^9 CFU/ML
- Dosage: 2ml per litre of Water, To Control Fungal Disease: 10ml/ litre of Water.
